Suspended Sentence Order

Suspended Sentence Order

A Suspended Sentence Order is a prison sentence of fewer than two years suspended for between six and 24 months.

If an offender breaches the order, they can be immediately sent to prison to serve out the prison sentence.

During the period of suspension, the court can set community requirements like The Community Order, although the only necessary condition is for the offender to not commit a further offence.

If a requirement is set, it should not be as onerous as a Community Order as a Suspended Sentence has the deterrent of a possible prison sentence.
