A team of volunteers from West Yorkshire CRC recently helped out at the Bradford Metropolitan Foodbank as part of part of the Give a Day Of Your Time (GADOYT) scheme.
Organised by case manager Donna Chatfield, the team helped pack and prepare food bags, which are regularly handed out to service users.
Donna said: “The foodbank is entirely run by volunteers and unlike other food banks they do not restrict to postcode areas nor do they supply direct to the public, they prefer to give out to organisations who then use their judgement to ensure these are only given out to people in dire need.
“They buy a lot of the produce they give out and get daily donations from some supermarkets in Bradford as well as taking cash donations from members of the public. They put a lot of thought into what goes into each bag to ensure it’s a balanced meal.
“The treasurer Keith Thompson told us we were a lovely friendly bunch of people, who worked really hard and he liked that we developed out own way of packing the product, he liked that we used our own initiative and thanked us for our help.”
A mix of senior case managers, case managers and case co-ordinators all based at Fraternal House in Bradford attended the GADOYT sessions including Zenab Karim, Sarah Penn, Suhail Nawaz, Sheila Wood and Arabella Tillotson.
The next session will be manned by Lisa Fearon, Naomi Richardson, Penny French, Wendy Knight, Donna Chatfield, Sarah Penn and Ollywn Watt.
